Attributes are property or metadata tags on a system object, such as an experiment. There are two types of Attributes: List and Number sequence.
Attributes are used:
- For consistency in records management. All templates of the same type contain the same attributes, which standardize a particular object in Signals.
- To help users search for an item in Signals.
- As a critical component of Dynamic Access Control. The administrator can pair user groups with an attribute to define who has access to certain objects within the Signals system.
- As part of a defined security policy. When attributes are combined with a user role, the admin can provide dynamic access control through the security permissions using controlled metadata. This helps to make changes to business rules and provides transparency for access settings across the organization.
Note: Users with no access to a particular attribute value will not see the option when creating an object, even if they are copying it. In that case, the attribute value will be deleted.
When using attributes:
- The Multi Select option allows association of more than one value from a List Attribute to a given object.
- The relationship between Attributes and End User tagging is such that:
- Attributes must be added to system templates.
- When users tag experiments with attributes, the system will remember recent values and show the most recent ones first.
- The relationship between Attributes and Security Policy is such that security rules can be configured based on attributes.
