Variations Tables are primarily used to design and execute experiments whereby multiple formulations or mixtures are created. Such formulations are produced in a variety of industries, including life sciences for the development of new medicines and industrial chemistry for the development of paints, glues, detergents, and more. The Variations Table can be defined by the Signals administrator and can be applied to a broad range of use cases beyond formulations.
At the Components level of the Variations Table, the admin defines the various master properties that are constant between all the Variants, such as a list of master ingredients for the formulation. Any differences in properties across instances can be described in the individual Variants. The Vertical Summary provides a comparison view of all the Variants to facilitate experimental design. The Horizontal Summary provides a comparison view of all the Variants to facilitate a weighing sheet.
The system administrator and any users with Config Admin privileges can create, configure, and share Variations templates.
Variations Table contents and fields are searchable. Actions performed on Variations Table are recorded in the History and the Admin Audit Trail.
Variations Tables can be added to Experiments, Parallel Experiments, Requests, Admin Defined Objects, Individual Samples, Individual Tasks, subexperiments, and more.
A Table (created from an admin defined table template) and a Variations Table cannot have the same name.
