We prioritize data security and reliability in our Signals Notebook system by performing regular backups.
To meet our Recovery Point Objective (RPO): 24 hours and Recovery Time Objective (RTO): 48 hours objectives, we have employed multiple backup techniques and frequencies depending on the sub-system. Additionally, these sub-systems are maintained across multiple availability zones.
To enhance geographic redundancy and disaster recovery, our backup regions differ from the primary data store regions. Here is a high-level overview of the primary → backup disaster recovery (DR) region mappings:
- us-east-1 (N. Virginia) → us-east-2 (Ohio)
- us-east-2 (Ohio) → us-west-2 (Oregon)
- eu-central-1 (Frankfurt) → eu-west-1 (Ireland)
- ap-northeast-1 (Tokyo) → ap-northeast-2 (Seoul)
This approach ensures our data is secure and recoverable across different geographic locations.
