Problem:
When I double click on a structure pasted or inserted in another application like Word, ChemDraw does not launch separately for editing. Instead the ChemDraw tools appear within the application. How can I get ChemDraw to launch separately for editing?
Solution:
In ChemDraw 8 and above, open the Preferences (File menu), and uncheck, "Use Inplace Editing for OLE Objects Embedded in Other Applications". Now when you double click, ChemDraw will launch externally.
ChemDraw 7, the "in place" editing feature was added. This is a Microsoft standard. If you prefer to use the old style way of editing where ChemDraw launches separately, you can right click on the structure in your application and choose Open from the CS ChemDraw Drawing Object submenu.
