Problem:
Upgrading to TIBCO Spotfire Server 10.3.1 fails if selecting to not use a configuration from a previous server installation
Solution:
When running the upgrade tool for TIBCO Spotfire Server 10.3.1, if you select the option "Do not copy configuration" to upgrade without using a configuration from a previous server installation, the upgrade fails with the following error message:
ERROR 2019-06-10T13:14:00,078 tools.upgrade.UpgradeTool: Internal error java.lang.NullPointerException: null at com.spotfire.server.tools.upgrade.steps.DataFunctionTrustWarningStep.needsToRun(DataFunctionTrustWarningStep.java:42) ~[?:?] at com.spotfire.server.tools.upgrade.steps.DatabaseConnectionStep.completeStep(DatabaseConnectionStep.java:132) ~[?:?] at com.spotfire.server.tools.wizards.AbstractSilentModeInstaller.run(AbstractSilentModeInstaller.java:53) ~[?:?] at com.spotfire.server.tools.upgrade.UpgradeTool.runSilent(UpgradeTool.java:260) ~[?:?] at com.spotfire.server.tools.upgrade.UpgradeTool.run(UpgradeTool.java:94) [?:?] at com.spotfire.server.tools.upgrade.UpgradeLauncher.main(UpgradeLauncher.java:46) [spotfire-tss-tools.jar:?]
This is a known issue in TIBCO Spotfire Server version 10.3.1 which is fixed in version 10.3.2.
For now, the recommendation is to select to copy a configuration from previous server installation when running the upgrade tool.
