TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services 10.3.0 files are falsely detected as a threat by Windows Defender
TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services (TSSS ) 10.3.0 can mistakenly be detected as a threat (Trojan) by Windows Defender during installation and some of the installation files deleted. Specifically a false positive detection is made of the files underneath .InstallAnywhere_Duplicates_Temp, which are generated by the installer framework (InstallAnywhere). The detection is made on the last stage of installation and the installation seemingly finishes successfully. However, TSSS will not start up and removing the installation using Control Panel tools could be problematic.
Update June 13, 2019:
The issue has been addressed in a Windows Defender update, so if you encounter it, make sure to update Windows Defender.
--------------------------------------
To avoid this issue, prior to running the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services 10.3.0 installer, disable Windows Defender Real-Time Protection:
- Select Windows Start menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings
- Switch Real-time protection to Off. Note that scheduled scans will continue to run. However, files that are downloaded or installed will not be scanned.?
- After the installation has been completed, switch the Real-Time protection On again.
