Is there a way to turn off automatic numbering while drawing structures?
By default in ChemDraw, the automatic numbering is turned off. Somehow, it may have been turned on in your ChemDraw application. Check the Drawing Document Settings in the following way:
1. From the File menu, open "Document Settings".
2. Select Drawing from the list in the Document Settings dialog box.
3. Uncheck the "Show Atom Numbers" checkbox (if that was selected) and click OK.
If you are using v17.1 or higher, make sure that the "Display IUPAC Atom Numbers on S2N/N2S" checkbox (in the Preferences dialog box under "Building/Display") unchecked.
For example, you have an issue with ACS Document 1996 style sheet then try the following steps on Windows 10
1. Launch ChemDraw as an Administrator
[Click the Windows Start button then Browse to ChemDraw (present under ChemOffice 20XX), select then right-click then click on the More and then select the "Run as Administrator" ]
2. From the File menu select Open Style Sheets and then select ACS Document 1996
3. Open "Document Settings" from the File menu
4. Select Drawing from the list in the Document Settings dialog box.
5. If "Show Atom Numbers" checkbox checked then uncheck the "Show Atom Numbers" checkbox (if that was selected) and click OK.
[If you are using v17.1 or higher, make sure that the "Display IUPAC Atom Numbers on S2N/N2S" checkbox (in the Preferences dialog box under "Building/Display") unchecked.]
6. Then select "Save Style Sheet" from the File menu
7. Close ChemDraw and retest the issue after reopening ChemDraw application.
