Product:TIBCO Spotfire Analyst
Versions:All
Summary:
The warning message "The element 'xxxxxx' is not supported" is displayed when using any unsupported HTML element in Spotfire Text area HTML if HTML Sanitation is enabled.
Details:
Only some HTML elements are supported in the Text Area (as documented in the Spotfire Analyst User Guide)
If you attempt to use a non-supported element, the warning message "The element 'xxxxxx' is not supported." (e.g. "The element 'style' is not supported.") is displayed. That is controlled by the built-in HTML Sanitation feature, which prevents the use of any non-supported elements. This feature can be disabled.
Resolution:
Start by looking for alternative solutions that do not require the use of the particular element. There are a number of articles in the Community wiki that may provide ideas, such as Using Spotfire Text Areas to Increase Usability of Analytics through HTML, Javascript and CSS
If no alternative solution is found, read this before considering to disable HTML Sanitation
Disabling the PerformHTMLSanitization should only be used if all other options have been explored. When the PerformHTMLSanitization is disabled, there are no longer any safeguards that guarantee that the JQuery/JavaScript code works as expected when used within the product. HTML and script support vary between different web browsers and sanitation helps guarantee that the Text Area will work as intended when displayed from the Spotfire Web Player / Business Author.
For any element type that you want access to that is currently not supported, we recommend that you also create an idea (or vote for an existing idea) in the Ideas Portal (https://ideas.tibco.com?) so it may become supported in the future.??????
How to disable HTML Sanitation
Navigate to Tools >> Administration Manager >> Preferences >> Text Area and set "PerformHtmlSanitation" to "false" and restart Spotfire. See the attached image (Filename: PerformHtmlSanitation.PNG ).
Note: The Administration Manager is generally only available to Spotfire Administrators. If you do not have access to it, contact your local Spotfire administrator.
Disclaimer
TIBCO Spotfire Support reserves the right to deny support to any solution that is developed with the PerformHTMLSanitization option disabled.
