Spotfire Web Player is not displaying a Holt-Winters forecast line.

Description:

Spotfire Web Player does not display a Holt-Winters forecast line that is displayed when the same Spotfire analysis is opened in the Spotfire desktop client.

Symptoms:

Spotfire Web Player does not display a Holt-Winters forecast line that is displayed when the same Spotfire analysis is opened in the Spotfire desktop client.

Cause:

The Holt-Winters forecast, one of the features in the Advanced Analytics toolkit, uses a built-in TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR) data function that needs access to TERR. The Spotfire desktop client has its own built-in TERR engine, but the Web Player does not. This is by design. The Web Player can only display the Holt-Winters forecast line when it has URL access to a TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services (TSSS) instance that is configured to use TERR as its statistical engine.

Note: TSSS is a separate product, not included with any other Spotfire product. TSSS should not be installed on the server that hosts the Web Player. TSSS should be installed on its own server, to avoid forcing it to compete with the Web Player for server resources.

Resolution

Provide the Web Player server URL access to a TSSS instance that is configured to use TERR as its statistical engine. This can be specified from the Spotfire desktop client under "Preferences" for the required Spotfire user group. It is recommended that this be configured for the "Everyone" group, as all the users are by default part of this group.
