TERR data functions via Web Player or Automation Services without installing Statistics Services (TSSS)
Is there a way to run TERR data functions via Spotfire Web Player or Spotfire Automation Services without installing TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services (TSSS)?
Starting with Spotfire Server 10.0, a node called the TERR Service can be deployed in Spotfire Server.
The TERR Service node is not available in any earlier Spotfire Server release. (It is not available in Spotfire Server 7.14.)
This new TERR Service feature runs TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR) scripts sent to it from Spotfire Web Player, Spotfire Automation Services, or the Spotfire Analyst desktop client.
You deploy the TERR Service node's *.sdn file using the administration interface in Spotfire Server 10.0 or later, but you purchase it and download it as part of TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services 10.0 or later.
The following clarification note has been posted on SPF-I-61 in the TIBCO Ideas Portal:

You still need a Statistics Services license, but you don't need to install the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services Server. The new TERR as a service can be deployed to one or more nodes within the Spotfire Server environment. This means that it is included in the trusted environment which simplifies SSO. Monitoring can be done from within the Spotfire Server admin and it is possible to upgrade the TERR Service and add new packages from the Spotfire Server admin deployment manager.
-----
Note: TERR Service should only be deployed on one operating system type (either on Windows or on Linux, but not on both), within the same Spotfire Server instance.
Additional Notes:
If the Web Player and Automation Services are part of a Spotfire Server environment that has the new TERR Service (TERRSRV) deployed and running, then they will send data functions' TERR scripts to the TERR Service for processing.
If the TERR Service (TERRSRV) node has not been deployed, or is not running, then they will look for a TSSS/TERR URL to use instead.
This is also true for the Spotfire Analyst desktop client when it is logged into Spotfire Server and running a data function whose "Run Location" parameter is set to "Force Server".

Downloading the TERR Service:
You deploy the TERR Service (TERRSRV) node's *.sdn file using the administration interface in Spotfire Server, but you purchase it and download it as part of TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services (TSSS).
The TERR Service node's official name is "TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition".
You still need a Statistics Services license, but you don't need to install the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services server.
For use with Spotfire Server 10.10.10 LTS, for example, you will need to deploy the SDN file for TERRSRV 1.3.0, which you download from the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services (TSSS) 10.10.10 LTS area on https://perkinelmerinformatics.flexnetoperations.com/
(1) Login to https://perkinelmerinformatics.flexnetoperations.com/
(2) Navigate to the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services download area:
(3) Select the 10.10.10 version
(4) Download the following components:
-----------------------------------------------
+ Statistics Services-Windows or Statistics Services-Linux (TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services 10.10.10)
+ Enterprise Runtime for R-Server Edition-Windows or Enterprise Runtime for R-Server Edition-Linux (TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R 1.3.8)
+ Python-Windows or Python-Linux (TIBCO Spotfire Service for Python 1.3.8 )
