Hortonworks Hive data connection fails with "ERROR [HY000] [Hortonworks][ThriftExtension] (5) Error occurred while contacting server: No more data to read.."
When the property 'hive.server2.authentication' in Hive configuration file is set to 'None', and 'No Authentication' is selected as the Authentication method in TIBCO Spotfire Hortonworks connection dialog, you may get the following error when trying to connect:
Could not connect due to an unknown error. External error: ERROR [HY000] [Hortonworks][ThriftExtension] (5) Error occurred while contacting server: No more data to read.. This could be because you are trying to establish a non-SSL connection to a SSL-enabled server.
If the Hive server is set to use 'None' as the authentication, then the corresponding Hive driver authentication mechanism is 'Username'. To successfully connect, in the TIBCO Spotfire Hortonworks connection dialog, select 'Username' as the authentication method instead of 'No Authentication' and leave the username blank.
Note: The 'No Authentication' option in the TIBCO Spotfire Hortonworks connection dialog should be selected when the property 'hive.server2.authentication' is set to NOSASL
If you continue to have issues after the changes, then please contact TIBCO Support at https://support.tibco.com for further assistance.
