"Error: abc.xlsx file is locked for editing" seen when opening Microsoft Excel files

This error can be seen while opening an excel file in MS-Excel if the same file was opened in Spotfire Analyst earlier. 

The error will look like below.

This issue is seen because the file was earlier opened in Spotfire Analyst and the application was not closed properly or the application process was stuck for any reason.

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps.

- Save any pending work in Spotfire Analyst Client
- Open the "Task Manager" on the machine where the file was accessed in Spotfire Analyst
- Go to "Processes" tab
- Look for "TIBCO Spotfire" and select it
- Click "End Task"
- Try opening the excel file now.

Note: There could be other reasons behind the error, like file currently open in another application where the application needs to be ended as discussed in the steps above.
Note: If the file is hosted on a network drive, ensure no other users have locked this file for edits.
