Signals One: Spotfire for Signals Software update fails with "The installation failed due to an unknown problem (HRESULT: 80071129)"

Problem:

When attempting to perform a Software Update from Spotfire for Signals One to the server, the update process may fail with the following error:

The installation failed due to an unknown problem.

IOException at mscorlib:
The tag present in the reparse point buffer is invalid.
(HRESULT: 80071129)

Resolution:

This issue may occur when the Spotfire for Signals folder is located in a directory managed by OneDrive, because files in such directories may be represented as Windows reparse points.

Running Spotfire for Signals from a location that is not managed by OneDrive should prevent the reparse point error and allow the update process to complete successfully.

For example:

Not recommended (OneDrive-managed location)

C:\Users\<userid>\Downloads\Spotfire_for_Signals_Portable\

Recommended:

C:\temp\Spotfire_for_Signals_Portable\

Important:

Do not move the existing Spotfire for Signals folder from a OneDrive-managed location to another location. Instead, extract a fresh copy from the Spotfire for Signals ZIP file.
