Introduction: This article explains the "No valid information link configuration was found" message you can get when you run a structure search in Spotfire Lead Discovery on chemical structures loaded from a local file. It also shows two ways to search local structures: the Structure Search in ChemCharts, and the Structure Filter.
Confirmed Behavior:
Why the structure search shows this message
- When you run a structure search in Spotfire Lead Discovery, this message can appear: "No valid information link configuration was found."
- This structure search looks for an information link configuration in the Spotfire Library. If none is set up, the search can't run.
- On the Revvity subscription (hosted) Spotfire Server, you usually can't use Information Designer to create information links. That's only possible in your own on-premises environment.
- Your structures still show correctly in the analysis. Only this structure search is affected.
- To search structures loaded into your analysis, such as data from a local file, use the Structure Search in ChemCharts or the Structure Filter.
Example:
A user on the Revvity subscription server opens a local file with chemical structures in Spotfire Analyst. The structures show correctly. When the user runs a structure search, the message "No valid information link configuration was found" appears. The user adds a ChemCharts visualization, picks the compound table and the Chemistry chart, and clicks Add Structure Search. The structure search now works.
The "No valid information link configuration was found" message that appears when you run a structure search on local data.
Before you start
- Make sure your data is loaded in the analysis and has a structure column that shows the structures correctly.
- Make sure ChemCharts is available in your Spotfire Analyst. It's part of Lead Discovery Premium.
- If you need to search a chemistry database (for example, Oracle) through information links, that setup needs Information Designer in your own on-premises environment.
Process Steps:
- Check Where the Data Comes From
- If the structures come from a local file or are already loaded in the analysis, use Option A or Option B below.
- Option A – Use the Structure Search in ChemCharts
- Add a ChemCharts visualization to the analysis.
- Select the compound table and the Chemistry chart.

- Click Add Structure Search, draw or paste the query structure, and set the search conditions.

- Click OK to run the search.
- Option B – Use the Structure Filter
- Go to View > Structure Filter.
- Draw or enter the query structure to filter the compounds in the analysis.
- Go to View > Structure Filter.
- Check the Fix
- Check that the matching compounds are returned or filtered and that the "No valid information link configuration was found" message doesn't appear.
- Contact Revvity Signals Support
- If the problem continues, contact Support. Include your Spotfire version and hotfix (Help > Support Diagnostics and Logging > Product File Information > Copy Info), whether you are on the Revvity subscription server or on-premises, where the data comes from (local file or database), and screenshots of the error.
Key Findings:
- The Message Is About Information Links:
- This structure search looks for an information link configuration in the Spotfire Library. If none exists, the message appears.
- Use ChemCharts for Local Structures:
- ChemCharts > Chemistry > Add Structure Search works on structures already loaded in the analysis.
- The Structure Filter Is Another Option:
- View > Structure Filter lets you filter loaded compounds by structure.
Critical Note: If you see "No valid information link configuration was found" when you run a structure search on local data, don't use that search. Instead, add a ChemCharts visualization, select the compound table and the Chemistry chart, and click Add Structure Search. You can also go to View > Structure Filter. Searching a database through information links needs Information Designer, which is usually only available in your own on-premises environment.
