In Signals Notebook, the process of closing experiments varies based on the edition you’re using. This article explains key differences between Individual Edition and Standard.
In Individual Edition, users have the autonomy to “Sign and Close” their own Experiments without requiring review by a witness. This simplified process allows individual users to close their Experiments independently.
In contrast, Signals Notebook Standard enables more structured but flexible Experiment review workflow. Users must adhere to the Experiment review workflow defined by the admin users within their Signals Notebook tenant.
Troubleshooting:
- Missing “Close” menu Item: If you open an active experiment and don’t find the “Close” menu item "ACTIVE" pulldown menu, your tenant configuration prohibits users from closing experiments without signing. Users need to either "Sign and Close" if available or "Sign and Add Reviewers" to get a witness to sign and close the Experiment.
- Missing “Sign and Close” menu item: Similarly, if you don’t see the “Sign and Close” menu item, your configuration restricts users from closing experiments without a witness. Users need to "Sign and Add Reviewers" to have a witness to sign and close the Experiment.

If you need to change the Experiment review workflow, please consult admin users of your tenant.
For Admin users
There are two parts in Configuration to enable "Sign and Close" for appropriate user roles.
Enable Workflows for "Sign and Close"
The configuration for Experiment review workflow is available in "Configuration" app. Select "System Objects" smart folder icon, click on "Experiment" card, then select "Workflow" from navigation menu on the left. Check the checkbox for "Allow sign and close without witnessing".
Add appropriate Experiment Privileges to roles
Open "Configuration" app, and select "System Objects" smart folder icon, click on "Experiment" card. Select "Privileges" from navigation menu on the left. Find the column for "Sign and Close Without Witnessing Experiment", and check the checkboxes for the roles that you want to allow to "Sign and Close".
