Please, check characterset values in DB first: SQL select * from nls_database_parameters; You should have the values for NLS_CHARACTERSET and NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET as below: NLS_CHARACTERSET AL32UTF8 NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET UTF8 If it differs, you would need to fix it. It would require dropping and recreation of schema.
