User get's logged off automatically after a certain period of time and cookies prevents the application usage
Problem:
A time-out exists where the user gets logged off and has to sign back into the CS software and also sometimes cookies error message as below preventing me to continue to use it:
"ChemOffice WebServer applications require the use of browser cookies."
You will need to enable cookies in order to access this application.
Cookies are allowed on my system. Is there a way to fix this?
Solution:This is not a bug, but as designed. Log-in are being kept active via explorer cookies. In the application ini files, we have time-outs for ose cookies, so if the user is in a form for a very long time (say a biosar table form) and does a lot of changes with no save in between, you will get timed-out. This time-out is a system wide setting (25 min, so not for each user. Users can alter this, but need to keep in mind that people have to log out manually, as closing the explorer window on their client machine does not constitute log out.
Another person else logging in within the cookie time-out time frame can get access to the system.
To alter the time-out settings (for the BioSAR application):
This is because cookies could not be saved on the client PCs for various reasons, one of the reasons is that users were running out of temporary space in their browser cache. To fix this
Go to the Internet Options in your browser and make sure that you have a reasonable amount of space reserved for your temporary cache and periodically delete the cookies and files using the two buttons provided in the "Temporary Internet Files" area on the form for that purpose?
Here is a nice site to test the maximum number of cookies allowed in your browser:
http://krijnhoetmer.n l/stuff/javascript/maximum-cookiesIt seems that IE only remembers around 20 cookies, so you should manually delete your session cookies from time to time, to avoid reaching that limit.
