Problem:

"Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component" on an E-Notebook Client with Adobe Reader


Solution:

The following error may occur on an E-Notebook Client with Adobe Reader, e.g. while signing and closing an experiment:

"Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component"


Workaround:

Open Adobe Reader, go to Edit > Preferences > Internet, and make sure the “Display PDF in browser" check-box is switched on.
