Searching for Chemical Information in ELN WinWord or Excel documents

Customers have chemical structures embedded as OLE objects into a WinWord document or into a MS Excel section (using ChemDraw for Excel). The chemical structures contained in these documents are not indexed by Oracle Cartridge and will not be retrieved during a search.

Customers somehow expect this feature because we can find structures in MS Office document using our ChemFinder for Office product.

Solution:

To be able to search for chemical information in E-Notebook, this information must be either in a ChemDraw field (like in the ELN Reaction Section) or in the structure column a ELN Table section.

Any chemical structures embedded as OLE objects in MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint will not be indexed by Oracle Cartridge and will not be found in a search in E-Notebook.

This has been filed as an ELN enhancement request (CSBR-64712) though.
