Problem:
How to migrate an instance of Spotfire Server to a new machine.
Solution:
This article describes steps to follow during migration of Spotfire Server to a new machine:
- Stop Spotfire Server service on current machine and take a full backup, as mentioned in the Spotfire Server installation manual:
- Install Spotfire Server on a new server machine as per the instructions mentioned in the following section of the Spotfire Server installation manual:
- If you are using same Spotfire database, make sure you use the exact same database hostname, username and passwords for the new machine in the bootstrap.xml. Otherwise, please take a backup of current Spotfire database, migrate it to the new database and then update the bootstrap.xml with the required database hostname, username and password.
Note, if encryption password is already specified in current box, use the same password. If you do not know the old encryption password, then you'll have to re-save all data sources and re-save the Spotfire server configuration, so that all passwords can be saved in the database using the new encryption password. - Start the newly created Spotfire Server service to make sure it starts and that you can login as admin user.
- If you have any custom authentication filters or JDBC drivers in any of the following locations, make sure to copy them from old file system to new file system:
- [server install dir]\server\tomcat\webapps\spotfire\WEB-INF\lib
- [server install dir]\\tomcat\custom-ext
- Restart Spotfire Server service and test logging in again.
