Error "[WEB_PLAYER] process state switched to failure with exit value -532462766" when attempting to start a new TIBCO Spotfire Web Player instance

Problem:

Error "[WEB_PLAYER] process state switched to failure with exit value -532462766" when attempting to start a new TIBCO Spotfire Web Player instance


Solution:

After editing the TIBCO Spotfire Web Player service to use a newly imported configuration (see reference Manually editing the service configuration files), the Web Player instance may not start with the error: 

[WEB_PLAYER] process state switched to failure with exit value -532462766

This error is caused because of syntax errors in the Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Web.config file, resulting in an invalid XML file that cannot be read by the Spotfire application. To resolve, ensure there no syntax errors in the Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Web.config file when editing the configuration and that is it is proper, validated XML. An XML validation tool can be used to assist in finding invalid XML in the config file. See references for more details.

Once the Spotfire.Dxp.Worker.Web.config file and all configuration files are confirmed to be valid XML, save the configurations and apply to the Web Player service, and attempt to start the Web Player instances again. See Manually editing the service configuration files for more detail.
