Distorted structures when rendering a reaction
PROBLEM:
User is getting his structures squished when he signs and closes a chemistry
experiment.
REASON:
This issue is related to MS Office. One of our customers observed it after
applying MS Office 2007 hotfix (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2512787).
Another customer – after applying SP2 for MS Office 2007. Also, this issue was
reported for MS Office 2010.
WORKAROUND-1:
Open MS Word -> Word Options -> Save -> Save files in this format: set it as
"Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)".
WORKAROUND-2:
1. Select the whole reaction drawing (with either lasso or Ctrl+A).
2. Move the selected reaction vertically (either up or down).
3. Save.
After that, the reaction should no longer be vertically squished upon rendering
with any command (“Export to Word…”, “Export to PDF…”, “Print”, or “Sign and
Close”). However, the reaction might become vertically stretched.
WORKAROUND-3:
Right click on the reaction drawing for File -> Apply Document Settings from ->
ACS Document 1996.
This change can also be done by an E-Notebook administrator on the global
application configuration
level (Everyone -> Configuration -> Collection Type -> Chemistry Experiment) to make sure that it applies to all users and new experiments by default.
WORKAROUND-4:
You can also try removing recent MS Office updates.
NOTE:
The issue has been fixed by a patch for E-Notebook 11.0.3 and higher.
