Description of TIBCO Spotfire Web Player Temp directories from "Node Manager installation directory\services\WebWorker-GUID\Temp\"


Solution:

This article will provide you information about the various temporary folders that are generated by the TIBCO Spotfire Web Player in the temp directory <Node Manager installation directory>\services\WebWorker-<GUID>\Temp\ on the Node Manager server. Explanation of folders and their contents:

  • \Temp\<Instance GUID>\DataStorage\: During normal operations, TIBCO Spotfire Web Player may store temporary files and data used in analyses that have been opened using the Web Player to disk, in order to support reuse of that data wherever possible. If analyses with large amounts of data are opened, then large amounts of data may be stored here temporarily. These files may reach hundreds of gigabytes in size depending on the data being accessed in the open analysis files. It is not abnormal for these files to be present, and the Web Player will delete them when they are no longer in use or when the web application is restarted. If the data stored in a particular temporary file is no longer required, the Web Player may remove that file to enable reuse of its disk space.
 
  • \Temp\<Instance GUID>\Export\: The Export folder is created whenever you perform an Export action in the Web Player on a specific report. The application creates temporary files in this folder (for example: Temp\XOFIHDdqfkOzfVjTSaLRRw\Export-660\texa4so02z0.mad.tmp) when you open a file and Export it to table, visualization, etc. As soon as you close the analysis file in the Web Player, the.tmp file gets removed automatically. Below are the entries for "Export to pdf", as you can see it initiated a temp directory called 'Export-660'" when a pdf is generated:

  • \Temp\<Instance GUID>\Library\: As soon as a user opens an analysis file, it is downloaded from the TIBCO Spotfire Server to the Library folder which is then used to load the data and which is then removed when it is loaded fully. For example:

  • \Temp\<Instance GUID>\Misc-660\: Whenever a user opens or schedules an analysis that accesses any excel files or other flat files, there will be sub-process created  to access that data which will be stored in the "Misc" folder of Spotfire temp directory. For example:

  • \Temp\<Instance GUID>\Undo-660\: By default the application creates two .tmp files in this folder for each unique analysis file that is opened in Web Player. These two files are used for Undo and Redo stack of that specific analysis. Whenever you edit the file and use undo/redo option, it starts recording data into those temp files. These .tmp files get cleared once the users closes the file. For example:
