Signals Notebook: Calculated properties update overrides user-entered Chemical Name

Description

Administrators can update calculated properties of specified material library via Advanced Settings menu from SNConfig > Materials > Materials Management page.

When updating calculated material properties via Advanced Settings, the system recalculates structure-based fields and regenerates chemical names using IUPAC rules. This process overrides user-entered Chemical Name values and cannot be undone. Other non-structure-related fields are not affected.

Important Considerations

• Clicking Update will recalculate structure-based calculated properties and regenerate Chemical Name per IUPAC, overriding user-entered names.
• Non-structure-related properties are not recalculated; Inventory fields like Lot and Container custom fields are not impacted by the calculated property update.

Workaround for preserving customized chemical name

Enter organization-specific chemical names in the Synonyms field of the material record; Synonyms are not overwritten by Update or PubChem data imports when configured accordingly.
