Description
Users observed that tasks can be created for samples in closed or cancelled states. This behavior is intentional and supports downstream workflows where read-only samples are referenced for analysis. Any change to restrict this would require an enhancement request.
Solution
Creation of Task Requests on Closed and Cancelled Samples
The ability to associate Closed samples with tasks is intentional and functions by design. It is not a bug. Modifying this behavior would impact existing customer workflows and is categorized as an Enhancement Request, requiring broader customer discovery. Our original designs were crafted based on specific workflows and requirements that were relevant at the time of development. There are scenarios and cases where clients may need the following workflow:
- Intended Use Case:
- An originating scientist completes their primary work and closes the sample to lock it into a read-only state.
- The read-only sample is then handed off to a downstream analytical team/analyst.
- The analyst can attach the sample to new tasks and log test/analytical results without altering the original sample definition.
- Key Rationale: Closing a sample prevents unwanted modifications while keeping it active as a reference entity for downstream workflows.
