Signals Notebook: Accepting Tasks Using "Use This Experiment"

About "Use This Experiment"

"Use This Experiment" is a feature introduced with Signals Notebook v26.7. This feature lets analysts accept tasks and work on them in the same experiment where the tasks were created. This can reduce effort for Analysts; for example, if a task was created in Experiment A, the Analyst can accept and work on it directly within Experiment A, without creating a separate experiment and a "Tasks to do" information item.

The feature is available in the Row Options menu (hamburger menu) in the Task information item, as shown below.

Once you select "Use This Experiment", the status of the task changes from "Submitted" to "In Progress". You can then work on the task in the same experiment and proceed to Complete Task from the same menu to change the status to "Completed".

Problem

As an Analyst for tasks, I browse the Task information item in the experiment, but I can't find the "Use This Experiment" menu.

Solution

The following conditions must be met to use "Use This Experiment". The detailed troubleshooting steps follow.

1. The Analyst must be assigned the task.
2. The Analyst must have Write or higher access to the experiment.

Condition 1: The Analyst Must Be Assigned the Task

If the Analyst has Write access but is not assigned the task, the "Use This Experiment" option will not appear in the Row Options menu.

Resolution:

• Contact the creator of the task to request assignment.
• Alternatively, you can assign the task yourself:
  1. Select the checkbox for the task.
  2. Click Assign/Unassign Tasks → Assign Tasks.

Condition 2: The Analyst must have Write or higher access to the experiment

If the Analyst has only Read access to the experiment, the Row Options menu will not be available.

Resolution:

• If access is managed via Share, ask the experiment owner to grant Write or higher access.
• If access is controlled by a security policy, contact your tenant administrator.
