Signals Notebook: "Cannot reach the server" warning message seen randomly when searching with specific filters

Description

The warning “Cannot reach the server. Your local network connection may be down or our service may be temporarily unavailable.” is displayed randomly in the UI when searching with specific filters.
The network log may show the following errors:

• 503: “An unexpected error occurred. Please try again later or contact support.”
• 504: “com.revvity.signals.commons.exceptions.RenderableException: SearchServiceV2#sendRequestToChemSearch:285 failed to POST...”

Cause 

The warning is caused by a timeout from the search service. This can occur due to network issues or a high search result load. Search processes may become overloaded due to the selected filters, characteristics of the underlying data, or complex chemical queries.

Recommendations

Optimize the order and specificity of search filters to improve search performance:

1. Apply the most specific filters first, such as Date or Creator.
2. Apply broader filters, such as a Chemical Structure filter, last.
3. Whenever possible, use specific search terms, narrow date ranges, or exact chemical structures instead of broad or generic structures.
