Report does not update in Scheduled Updates with the message 'An update is already in progress'
A file does not get updated in Scheduled Updates and the message "An update is already in progress" is reported in the Scheduling and Routing Activity tab. The activity entry is a "Successful Update" with a green check mark, but the execution time is only in milliseconds and the report does not show current data.
There can be only one additional update in the Scheduled Updates queue for an analysis which already has an update/load in progress. So if there is an additional reload when that limit is reached (the report is currently updating/loading and there is an additional update in the queue), then the "An update is already in progress" status message will be displayed and that update activity will be completed.
This issue might persist if the updates are too frequent for a given report's load time. If the load time is longer than the update interval or there are additional requests for updates (manual or external), there may be a sustained state of queued updates which can cause this. In this situation, look at reducing the update interval for the report.
Another possible reason could be if the scheduled rule triggered at the rule start time say 10:00 but the uncaching of the previous cache that triggered at the end time, that is 9:55 has not completed yet. If the time difference between the start time and the end time is not enough to uncache the report, this issue will be seen. This is usually seen with huge reports which take more time to cache/uncache. In general we need to set this frequency based on the time the data in the file takes to load.
If the issue persists even after confirming the update interval is not too frequent given the report's load time, then open a support case with TIBCO for further investigation.
To find details about current and past updates for a file or rule, go to "Scheduling & Routing" > "Activity" tab. Clicking the [+] icon on the left for a given row will expand the activity details to provide more information such as the start time and Web Player instance name where the file was being loaded.
