Description
Finalized experiments in Katalyst indicate that all work on the experiment has been completed and no further modifications are anticipated. Once an experiment is finalized, it can no longer be edited through the Katalyst Web interface.
Solution
It is important to understand the behaviour and limitations of both processes described below.
Finalization Behaviour
- Finalization locks the experiment, preventing any modifications through the Katalyst Web interface while the experiment remains in a finalized state.
- Analytical data cannot be uploaded once an experiment has been finalized; therefore, all data collection must be completed prior to finalization.
- All finalization and reopening actions are automatically recorded in the experiment’s Record History, including the user who performed the action and the corresponding timestamp.
Reopening a Finalized Experiment
If corrections are required after finalization, authorized users may reopen the experiment.
Who can reopen:
- Experiment author
- Co-authors
- Administrator users
Limitations:
- Full reopening (including the ability to reprocess analytical data) is available only for experiments processed starting from Katalyst version 2024.4.
- For experiments processed in earlier versions, reopening allows editing of metadata only.
When to reopen:
Reopening should be performed only when legitimate corrections are necessary, such as updating metadata or reprocessing analytical data (where supported).
After corrections are completed, the experiment should be finalized again.
