System Administrators can create system groups or promote user groups to system groups. However, when attempting to create a system group, system administrators may encounter the error "Duplicate name found for an existing group. Please choose another name". However, when searching for other system groups with this same name, no exact results are found. Why is this happening?
Answer: The reservation of group names extends to all elements of type “Group”. Element types can be system groups or user groups. System administrators do not have default access to all user groups (just as described in the article Signals Notebook: Is it possible to grant access to user groups through the security policy). Therefore, it is possible that the name has already been assigned to a user group, but this user group is not visible to the system administrator.
As a system administrator, to identify whether this user group exists, you can perform a search using the “Audit log” in the system configuration menu. In this audit log, you can search for the desired name that displays the error when attempting to create the user group and set the event to search for as “Created”.
