Description
On some systems (often with strict corporate policies or redirected profiles), Spectrus fails to start or shows errors on launch because it cannot create required folders or files in the user’s profile/home directory. Symptoms can include immediate exit, error dialogs about configuration files, or inability to save preferences.
Solution
- Identify required user directories
- Determine the default Spectrus user data locations (for example under %APPDATA%, %LOCALAPPDATA%, or ~/ depending on OS).
- Check documentation or an installation on a normal workstation to see typical folder paths (e.g., C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ACD\SPECTRUS).
- Attempt to start Spectrus with elevated permissions (for diagnosis only)
- As a test, run Spectrus once “as administrator” (if permitted) to see if startup completes successfully.
- If this works, it suggests folder/permission issues in the user profile.
- Work with internal IT to adjust permissions or redirection
- Ensure the user has read/write access to the required configuration & cache locations in their profile.
- If folder redirection policies are in place (e.g., to network home drives), verify that these locations are reachable and not blocked.
- Configure alternative user‑data paths (if supported)
- In some deployments, Spectrus can be configured via an environment variable or config file to store user data in a custom, writable folder (e.g., D:\ACDUserData\<user>).
- Set this redirection according to internal guidelines and restart the application.
- After changes, relaunch Spectrus and confirm it starts without errors and can save preferences.
