Description
The migration of a License Server from a VM or cloud service to another (such as Azure VMware Solution to Azure IaaS) may be desired. Ensure that the specifications of the destination OS is compatible with the License Server and the license server installer is available. Hosts may want to use a test license on the new License Server first to ensure everything is working before deploying to the end users.
Solution
- Preparation and requests:
- Confirm target OS compatibility (Windows Server 2025 is supported).
- Request latest License Server installer from vendor along with the migration instructions (allow up to 1 business day for delivery).
- Request a test/trial license for the new server from the account manager (if testing is needed).
- Server migration (best practice):
- Deactivate the keys on the old License Server. Save configuration of the old LS with restrictions and settings. Stop the old LS.
- Install the latest License Server version on the new host.
- Enter and activate the provided test or permanent license keys on the new server.
- Load the configuration file and check restrictions and settings tab. Click Apply.
- Check that the new LS is up and running or Start it manually.
- Client reconfiguration and testing:
- For existing users: update ACDNMon.INI file on client machines (with administrative rights) to point to the new License Server IP/hostname and port.
- For test users (optional): perform a client-side install if needed and include the test username in License Server restrictions.
- Validate client connections to the new License Server and confirm application access.
- Support:
- If additional assistance is required, request Services engagement for hands-on migration help.
- Post-migration:
- Once validation succeeds, retire the old License Server and ensure all clients reference the new server details.
