Name: How to Use the Traditional Naming Style (hydrate) for water containing compounds

When generating names for compounds that contain water, ChemSketch/Name may produce names in the format:

[Compound Name] – water (1/1)

instead of traditional names such as hydrate or monohydrate.

This behavior is expected. By default, the naming engine follows the updated IUPAC recommendations for organic compounds that form adducts with water.

If you prefer the older IUPAC naming convention that uses terms such as hydrate, monohydrate, or similar descriptors, you can disable the newer naming rules:

1. Open the IUPAC Preferences dialog.
2. Locate the option that enables the updated IUPAC naming rules for water adducts.
3. Clear (uncheck) this option.
4. Generate the name again.

Once the option is disabled, ChemSketch/Name will use the older naming convention where applicable.
