Problem
If an experiment has a Worksheet or ADT (Admin Defined Table, Table) and its definition has been updated since its creation, the Worksheet/ADT element shows the "Update" link as shown below. When the user selects "Update", the Worksheet/ADT element is updated with the current definition, but its data is erased as a result, which may be undesirable. Therefore, Administrators may want to prevent users from doing "Update".
Solution #1
If you want to prevent the "Update" Worksheet/ADT operation for the all the Worksheet/ADT elements, please refer to the following knowledge base article.
Signals Notebook: How to prevent users from updating ADT Tables definition in experiments
Solution #2
If you want to avoid "Update" operation on Worksheet/ADT elements created from specific templates, share the Experiment Template or User Template that contains the Worksheet/ADT element, as opposed to sharing Worksheet or Table Templates directly. If the user doesn't have a read access to the Worksheet/ADT template, "Update" option is not displayed.
via sharing Experiement Template
- Identify the users/groups you don't want to allow the "Update" for the specific Worksheet/ADT.
- Remove the identified users/groups from the "Share" list of the Worksheet/ADT template.
- Create an Experiment Template and include the Worksheet/ADT element in it.
- Share the Experiement Template with the desirable users/groups.
- For users to use the Worksheet/ADT, they can create an Experiment from the Experiment Template or append the Experiment Template to eixsting Experments by "Append Template" feature.
via sharing User Template
- Identify the users/groups you don't want to allow the "Update" for the specific Worksheet/ADT.
- Remove the identified users/groups from the "Share" list of the Worksheet/ADT template.
- Create a User Template and include the Worksheet/ADT element in it.
- Share the User Template with the desirable users/groups.
- For users to use the Worksheet/ADT, they can create an Experiment from the User Template or append the User Template to eixsting Experments by "Append Template" feature.
