Description
After a Windows profile reset, roaming profile clean-up, or migration to a new PC, users may notice that their application customizations—such as toolbars, recent projects, and local preferences—have reverted to default settings. While the software continues to function correctly, personal settings are no longer retained.
Note: Resolving this issue requires assistance from internal IT.
Solution
- Identify how profiles are managed
- Determine whether:
- Users have roaming profiles that may be periodically cleaned.
- A new local profile was created for them (e.g., due to SID change).
- IT used a profile reset/clean-up tool.
- Determine whether:
- Locate old settings (if still accessible)
- If the old profile directory still exists on disk or backup, find:
- Application configuration folders (under AppData\Roaming).
- Any custom templates or macros stored in the profile.
- If the old profile directory still exists on disk or backup, find:
- Restore critical user assets
- Safely copy:
- Toolbars/layout config files (if separate).
- User‑defined templates, reports, or processing methods.
- Place them into the new profile’s corresponding folders.
- Safely copy:
- Consider moving key assets to user‑independent storage
- For frequently reused templates or methods:
- Store them in a central, backed‑up shared location.
- Point the application to that location via configuration or documented manual steps.
- For frequently reused templates or methods:
- Alternatively, prior to installing a new package or migrating to another PC, contact Support to get the Export Configuration tool. It needs to be installed to the old installation and used before upgrading the version or applying any major changes to the computer.
