Signals Notebook: PubChem activation and Reagent Import

This article explains how PubChem integration is activated and configured in Signals Notebook, the reagent information that can be imported, and how to troubleshoot common issues.

Admin Configuration: Enabling PubChem Import

PubChem integration must be enabled and mapped by a Signals Notebook administrator before users can import reagent data.

Steps to Enable Import from PubChem

• Navigate to Reagents (SNB) > PubChem
• Select Import Activation and enable Import From PubChem
• Open Mapping and map the PubChem fields to Signals Notebook reagent fields

Importing Reagent Information from PubChem

Once PubChem import is enabled, users can retrieve reagent information directly from PubChem by entering a CAS number in a Reagent field.

With the default PubChem import options, the following information can be imported:

• Chemical Name
• Synonyms
• Density
• GHS Signal Word
• Hazard Statements
• Precautionary Statements
• GHS Hazards

Important: Administrators control which PubChem fields are available for import. Users will only be able to import the data fields enabled and mapped by the system administrator.

Troubleshooting and Validation Checks

If PubChem data does not import as expected, verify the following:

• PubChem import is enabled under Reagents (SNB) > PubChem > Import Activation
• Required reagent fields are correctly mapped in the Mapping configuration
• The CAS number entered is valid and recognized by PubChem
• The administrator has allowed import of the specific data fields the user expects to retrieve
