ChemDraw: Preventing B(pin) Label Flipping in ChemDraw

Issue: When a structure containing the B(pin) group is rotated or flipped in ChemDraw, the label may change from (pin)B- to B(pin)-. 

Workaround 

1. Create a Custom Nickname 

Go to Structure > Create Nickname. 

Enter Bpin as the nickname (without parentheses). 

Set the attachment point on the boron atom. 

2. Use the Nickname 

Insert the Bpin nickname instead of typing B(pin) when drawing your structure. This keeps the label orientation consistent when the structure is rotated or flipped. 

3. Optional 

If ChemDraw displays an invalid valence on boron warning, you can suppress the warning for that text object if appropriate. 

Limitation 

The Bpin nickname is a visual workaround and does not represent the full chemical structure. As a result, it should not be used for chemical formula, molecular weight, or exact mass calculations. 

Summary 

Using a custom Bpin nickname prevents the B(pin) label from flipping when rotating or flipping structures in ChemDraw, while maintaining a consistent visual representation.
