Description
During installation of Spectrus software, the setup failed with the message "Registering CompassXtractMs.dll... fail!". The failure was caused by missing or incompatible Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages required by the Bruker/Compass filter components. Installing the appropriate C++ Redistributables and re-running the installer resolves the issue.
Solution
- Verify Windows edition and version (Start > About your PC > Windows specifications) to ensure compatibility.
- Check installed Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (Control Panel > Programs & Features).
- Install required VC++ Redistributables (x86 and x64) commonly needed by the product and Bruker Compass components (e.g., 2008 SP1, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015–2019/2022). Obtain packages from Microsoft’s official site.
- Reboot after installing Redistributables (recommended).
- Extract all installer files to the same folder and run SETUP.EXE as administrator (right-click and select Run as administrator).
- During installation, deselect software update if advised by the package notes and proceed with registration per instructions.
- Ensure antivirus or endpoint protection is not blocking DLL registration; temporarily allowing the installer and components if required.
- Confirm that .NET Framework prerequisites (if any) are installed per product documentation.
- Retry installation and confirm successful completion without CompassXtractMs.dll errors.
