Q:
>>In the installation documentation it states that the Oracle 19.3 database should
run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7. We would like to know if we can run it on
Red Hat 8 instead.
A:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x was qualified only with ELN v 21.1 (unreleased) and
20.1.1 which will have a patch fix with this qualification released soon.
Running this OS with earlier versions is not supported.
Q:
>>We will set up a new machine, with a fresh Oracle installation (version 19.3). But the current database is in Oracle 12c and we will need to migrate that database. Do we need to take any extra steps to update database schemes before we do this?
A:
The usual way would be to install Oracle 12c, restore the database and then upgrade the whole installation to 19.3, but it is possible to install Oracle 19.3, then restore a 12c backup and then do the upgrade only for the database - we recommend to use RMAN backup for that: it restores everything, so there is no need to recreate anything afterwards.
Q:
>>In the installation guide it states that we should install ODAC X Copy 19.3 32-bit. Should this not be 64 bit?
A:
It should be exact ODAC X Copy 19.3 32-bit.
Q:
>>Appendix B - Script to Recreate Text Indexes: do we need to do this in case of a fresh install and why?
A:
Text indexes need to be recreated just in case if they are in failed state, if they are valid after database upgrade - no additional actions required.
Q:
>>In the preparation checklist for the database it states that “a Windows machine with access to the Unix box must be available during installation”. Does this refer to the web server, where the e-Notebook will be installed, or does this need to be a work station? And what type of access do you mean, SSH?
A:
Windows machine is needed to run CsCartidge upgrade tool, which creates CsCartridge libraries that should be copied to the Oracle home location under CsCartridge location on database server. To perform “copy library action” by installer, access to the Unix system with account with system privileges is required. But in practice, libraries can be manually copied by administrator. Please check CsCartridge user guide for more information (attached).
Q:
>>In the Webserver checklist it states: “A Windows Administrator user account and password are known and available during installation. This account will be setup as the identity for the E-Notebook Web service. Unless the Web service is properly updated, this username and password must remain fixed.” Can you explain what you mean here?
A:
Administrator account is used to set up several services in IIS for ELN, so if you change admin credentials - they should be updated in IIS configurations too. It might be inconvenient, that’s why we recommend that “username and password must remain fixed”.
Q:
>>In the installation guide (page 70 – server installation instructions) it states: “Install the latest Oracle patch”. This seems vague: are there specific patches that ELN supports? What if there is a new patch tomorrow, do we know for sure this will work?
A:
It is expected that Oracle database server should be up to date with latest patch on the moment of ELN installation. Any unexpected compatibility issues rarely brought up by new updates are promptly addressed.
