There are certain limitations to offline working in E-Notebook. For example, there are system features that do not work while you are in offline mode:
- You cannot create new Notebooks while in offline mode. Similarly, cannot create new collections (folders etc.) while you are in offline mode.
- You cannot make transition changes to your experiments while you are in offline mode.
For example, you are prevented from signing and closing your experiments, or countersigning experiments submitted to you. The Waiting Documents list at the bottom of your Home Page is not available to you while you are in offline mode. - Experiments created offline are not date-stamped or validated with author information until the experiment is synchronized with the server when you connect to the network.
Solution
Users can pre-create an empty offline notebook for emergencies:
- Open E-Notebook while connected to the server.
- Create and save an empty notebook.
- Ensure it is stored in the offline folder for access during offline mode.
- Utilize the pre-created notebook for any offline experiments.
Note: New notebooks cannot be directly created in offline mode; standard functionality is restored upon re-connection to the server.
