Description
Importing very large numbers of xC/UV/MS vendor files in a single operation can exhaust system resources and trigger low‑level HDF5 or “out of memory” errors in some Spectrus versions. This typically occurs when hundreds of data files are added at once and opened into a single session.
Solution
- Break large imports into smaller batches:
- Instead of importing all files at once, import them in manageable groups (for example, 20–50 files at a time, depending on file size and RAM).
- Use conservative import options:
- In Options > Import Options… > MASS, disable non‑essential options such as:
- “Show MSn Data as Separate Traces” (if not required).
- Any splitting options that multiply the number of opened traces.
- In Options > Import Options… > MASS, disable non‑essential options such as:
- Monitor resource usage:
- After importing a batch, save your work and close unneeded datasets before importing the next batch.
- If you encounter an HDF5 or memory‑related error:
- Close Spectrus and restart it to release memory.
- Reopen only the most needed datasets and continue in smaller steps.
- For routine high‑volume workflows:
- Consider using a workstation with ample RAM and 64‑bit OS.
- Establish internal guidelines for maximum batch size per import session.
- If a particular data folder consistently triggers errors, test with the latest Spectrus version and, if needed, share anonymized data internally for further technical analysis.
