Description
When configuring a Heat Map in Katalyst, channels may not be available when Reprocessed Data is selected as the data source. This behaviour is expected for finalized experiments and is related to how Review Table data is managed after experiment closure.
Symptoms
When configuring a Heat Map:
- Open the Colour Parameters configuration.
- Select Reprocessed Data as the data source.
- Expected channels (for example, TAC/CAD) are not available for selection.
The same channels may still be available when Initial Data is selected.
Cause
In finalized (closed) experiments, the Review Table no longer contains reprocessing results. As a result, Heat Map configurations that depend on the Reprocessed Data dataset cannot access those channels.
Review Table modes:
Open (Not Finalized) Experiments
Initial Data
- Contains only initial processing results.
Reprocessed Data
- Contains results only for wells that have been reprocessed.
- Wells that were not reprocessed do not contain values in this view.
Combined Data
- Contains reprocessed results for reprocessed wells.
- Contains initial processing results for all other wells.
Closed (Finalized) Experiments
Initial Data
- Becomes equivalent to the Combined dataset.
Reprocessed Data
- Empty.
Combined Data
- Remains unchanged and continues to contain the final results.
Note: Processing and reprocessing results refer to values stored in the Review Table, not the underlying raw data.
Solution
Use Combined Data when configuring Heat Maps.
Because the Combined Review Table remains available and unchanged after experiment finalization, Heat Maps configured using Combined Data continue to function correctly for both open and finalized experiments.
Best Practices
- Configure Heat Maps using Combined Data whenever possible.
- Avoid relying on Reprocessed Data for Heat Maps that must remain usable after experiment finalization.
